Senior Engineer / Nuclear Defence / Warrington (hybrid) / 6 months +
Rate – Up to £50 per hour (DOE) Umbrella
Contract Length – 12 month contract
The Senior Engineer is responsible for overseeing the delivery of engineering and technical activities, utilizing their extensive process knowledge and domain expertise. As an experienced engineer with a high level of specialization in a particular subject area, the Senior Engineer is entrusted with resolving intricate technical issues, compiling technical reports and presentations, ensuring adherence to specifications in alignment with stakeholder requirements, and coaching and mentoring colleagues in their respective disciplines. This role entails developing a keen understanding of business operations, fostering robust relationships with stakeholders, and the ability to work both independently with limited technical direction and as part of a small team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take accountability for designs, developments, and solutions to complex problems within a specialized subject area.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members to enhance their effectiveness and professional growth.
- Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety standards, authorized documentation, Good Practice Guides, and ISO standards.
- Foster effective collaboration across Engineering and other functional teams.
- Assist in the efficient management of customer relations, including liaison and relationship development with existing and new customers, resolution of technical and delivery issues, and keeping customers informed of progress.
- Identify and correctly apply procedures, codes, and standards to engineering and technical activities.
- Contribute to the Project Safety Assessment process and communicate and manage task and project risks effectively.
- Produce, review, and approve calculations, analyses, drawings, models, design basis documentation, and technical reports as assigned.
- Evaluate the implications of changes, concessions, and queries and maintain the engineering configuration to ensure design integrity.
- Assess technical issues to develop proposals for investigations and solutions, including process improvements.
- Support the Project Manager in planning, controlling, and delivering tasks and projects.
- Make engineering decisions within the scope of responsibility and delegated authority.
- Act as Technical Authority or Engineering Lead when authorized.
- Maintain the highest standards for health and safety in the immediate area of responsibility and ensure team members comply with company standards on health, safety, environment, ethics, and behaviours.
- Stay up-to-date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities, and promote a culture of engineering best practices and cultural development.
- Contribute to learning from experience (LfE) requirements, both during and post-project.
- Support business development opportunities and provide input into or review of tender requirements, including estimates.
Experience/Qualifications/Skills:
Essential:
- Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant engineering discipline, with significant demonstrable experience.
- Chartered Engineer status (or actively working toward Chartered Status).
- Experience in collaborative work within multi-discipline teams to deliver activities across a range of project types.
- Demonstrable experience in handling a variety of tasks with varying complexities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with other disciplines.
Desirable:
- Membership in a relevant institute or significant demonstrable engineering experience, capable of registration with the Engineering Council.
- Experience in managing engineering scope for Projects from concept design to full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).
- Broad and deep experience in a range of commercial or defence projects.
